Living in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida: Neighborhood Guide

Palm Beach Gardens grew from John D. MacArthur’s vision of a “garden city” into one of the region’s premier places to live and work. It is the golf capital of the Palm Beaches, a regional shopping and dining hub, and home to a growing base of healthcare, engineering and corporate employers.

At a glance

  • Population: 59,182 (2020 Census)
  • Land area: about 59 square miles
  • Incorporated: 1959
  • Known for: PGA National, the PGA of America, and the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches PGA TOUR event

What stands out

  • Golf: PGA National Resort hosted the 1983 Ryder Cup and 1987 PGA Championship and hosts the annual Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.
  • Shopping and dining: The Gardens Mall, Downtown at the Gardens, PGA Commons, Midtown and Legacy Place, all along PGA Boulevard.
  • Employers: the city’s largest employers include healthcare systems, TBC Corporation, ZimVie, G4S and the South Florida Water Management District.
  • Growth: Avenir, a planned community of about 4,752 acres with nearly 4,000 homes, is adding new construction options.

Homes you will find

Palm Beach Gardens offers one of the widest selections in the county: private golf and country club communities such as PGA National, BallenIsles, Mirasol, Old Palm and Frenchman’s Creek, established single-family neighborhoods, townhomes and condominiums near the PGA Boulevard corridor, and new construction in Avenir. Club membership structures and HOA fees vary widely, and I compare them side by side for buyers.

Getting around

I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike both serve the city, with PGA Boulevard and Northlake Boulevard as the main east-west corridors. Jupiter, North Palm Beach and West Palm Beach are all within easy reach.

Schools: School assignments follow the address, not the town name. Check any specific address with the School District of Palm Beach County boundary tools, and I am happy to help you look one up.
