A quick update for anyone tracking Palm Beach County budget matters or with property interests near our beach parks.
The County had proposed charging parking fees at 12 beachfront parks to help close a budget gap in the $2.2 billion county spending plan. Seven of the twelve are here in north county: Coral Cove Park in Tequesta; DuBois, Carlin, Ocean Cay and Jupiter Beach parks in Jupiter; and Juno Beach and Loggerhead parks in Juno Beach. The original plan was $4 per hour for everyone, with a possible resident discount under consideration.
Residents Keep Free Parking
After more than 2,000 resident emails to Commissioner Maria Marino’s office, the County Commission reversed course on July 14 to 15:
- County residents: parking stays free. The County plans to issue annual passes to verify residency, with distribution details to come.
- Non-county residents and visitors: $4 per hour, starting October 1.
- Roadside parking along A1A: remains free regardless.
Budget Impact
The resident carve-out lowers projected fee revenue from about $10 million to about $3 million a year, with the roughly $4 million difference covered by county reserves. Final budget adoption was scheduled for County Commission hearings on September 3 and 15.
