Tequesta sits directly north of Jupiter at the very top of Palm Beach County. The two share a coastline, a river and many of the same restaurants and amenities, yet they feel quite different. Here is a side-by-side look to help you decide which fits your plans.

Setting and Lifestyle
Jupiter offers the full range: beaches, the Riverwalk, Harbourside Place, Downtown Abacoa, spring training baseball and a wide variety of dining and services.
Tequesta is compact and quiet. Founded in the 1950s as a planned community around the Tequesta Country Club, it has its own public safety facility and a strong neighborhood identity, with Jupiter’s amenities just minutes away.
Homes and Communities
- Jupiter: oceanfront and Intracoastal condominiums, riverfront and deep-water homes, gated golf communities, Abacoa and larger properties in Jupiter Farms.
- Tequesta: mid-century and updated single-family homes, river and Intracoastal properties, and condominiums, including oceanfront options on the Jupiter Island side. Older homes can be strong renovation opportunities.
Water and Recreation
- Jupiter: inlet access to the Atlantic, the Loxahatchee River, beaches throughout town and the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse.
- Tequesta: homes along the Loxahatchee River and Intracoastal, many with boat access, plus Coral Cove Park between the village’s beachside sections.
Jupiter Market Snapshot
In August 2026, Jupiter’s single-family median sold price was $1,022,000, with a median of 24 days on market and 2.57 months of supply. Tequesta is a much smaller market with fewer sales each month, so pricing varies more from month to month. I am happy to pull current Tequesta sales for the streets you are considering.
Owning a Home: Costs to Compare
- Property taxes: each municipality sets its own millage, and your total bill also includes county, school and special district rates. Compare the actual tax bills on homes you are considering.
- Homestead benefits: a primary residence in either town qualifies for Florida’s homestead exemption and the Save Our Homes cap on annual assessment increases. File with the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser by March 1.
- Insurance and flood zones: waterfront and oceanfront properties often carry higher insurance costs and flood zone requirements. Get quotes before you are under contract.
- Association fees: condominiums and gated communities have dues that vary widely; review budgets and reserves as part of your due diligence.
Getting Around
Both communities connect to US-1 and A1A along the coast. From Tequesta, Jupiter’s Indiantown Road access to I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike is a short drive south, and Palm Beach International Airport is farther south in West Palm Beach.
Which One Fits You?
Jupiter may be the better fit if you want: the widest choice of homes and price points, beaches in town, a busier dining and events scene and walkable areas like Abacoa and the Riverwalk.
Tequesta may be the better fit if you want: a small, established village setting, river or Intracoastal frontage and a quieter pace, with Jupiter’s amenities close by.
