Moving to Jupiter, Florida: The 2026 Relocation Guide

Thinking about moving to Jupiter, Florida? You are in good company. Every fall, buyers from the Northeast, the Midwest and beyond start planning their move to the northernmost town in Palm Beach County, drawn by the beaches, the boating, the small-town feel and Florida’s tax advantages. This guide covers what you need to know before you move: the lifestyle, the neighborhoods, the real estate market, the costs of owning a home and a step-by-step checklist for becoming a Florida resident.

Jupiter at a Glance

  • Population: 61,047 (2020 Census)
  • Location: about 15 miles north of West Palm Beach, at the top of Palm Beach County
  • Water everywhere: Atlantic beaches, the Jupiter Inlet, the Loxahatchee River and the Intracoastal Waterway
  • Signature landmark: the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, completed in 1860
  • Spring training: home of the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium
  • State income tax: none. Florida does not tax personal income.

Why People Move to Jupiter

  • The water: miles of Atlantic beaches, including dog-friendly stretches, plus inlet, river and Intracoastal access for boaters, anglers and paddlers.
  • A real town feel: Jupiter keeps a relaxed, local pace while offering the dining, shopping and services of a larger city along the Riverwalk, at Harbourside Place and in Abacoa.
  • An active outdoor lifestyle: golf, tennis, pickleball, cycling, kayaking on the Loxahatchee and year-round outdoor events.
  • Financial advantages: no state income tax, plus a homestead exemption and an annual cap on assessment increases for primary residences.
  • A growing employment base: research institutes in Abacoa, including the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and UF Scripps, along with professional and financial firms across northern Palm Beach County.

The Jupiter Real Estate Market

Jupiter’s single-family market has been strong. In August 2026, the median sold price was $1,022,000, homes sold in a median of 24 days, and inventory stood at 2.57 months of supply, firmly in seller’s market territory. Sold prices averaged 95.7% of list price. For the full breakdown and the latest month, see my market updates.

What that means for movers: well-priced homes in desirable areas move quickly, so it pays to have financing lined up, know your must-haves and be ready to act when the right home appears.

The Cost of Owning a Home in Jupiter

  • No state income tax: often the single biggest savings for people moving from high-tax states.
  • Homestead exemption: once your Jupiter home is your permanent residence, you can apply for Florida’s homestead exemption, which reduces the taxable value of your home. File with the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser by March 1 of the year you want it to apply.
  • Save Our Homes cap: after you receive the homestead exemption, annual increases in your home’s assessed value are capped at 3% or the change in the Consumer Price Index, whichever is lower.
  • Second homes and investment property: these do not receive the homestead exemption, and their annual assessment increases are capped at 10% for non-school taxes.
  • Insurance and flood zones: homeowners and flood insurance vary widely by location, elevation, roof age and construction. Get quotes early, before you are under contract.

Florida property tax rules can change, so confirm the current rules with the Property Appraiser before you buy. I am happy to help you estimate the full cost of ownership on any home you are considering.

Seasonal Residents: What to Know

Planning to split your time between Jupiter and another home? A few things to keep in mind:

  • Only your permanent, primary residence qualifies for the homestead exemption. A seasonal home is taxed as non-homestead property.
  • Many condominiums and HOAs have rental and leasing rules. Review them before you buy if you plan to rent the home while you are away.
  • Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Line up a plan for storm prep and home checks while you are away.
  • Peak season runs roughly from late fall through spring, when traffic, restaurant waits and buyer activity all pick up.
